“THE BOY FRIEND” starring the amazing Twiggy is one of my favorite films for the amazing sets and costumes, and for the incredible performance by Twiggy - I can’t believe she didn’t go on to a career in film because she is such natural performer and the camera loved her. Directed by Ken Russell, Costume Designer Shirley Russell, and Set Designer Tony Walton. Shirley Russell’s take on 1920’s costumes both influenced, and mirrored the whimsy present in the best of London’s 1970’s fashions - Polka dots, Pierrette, Gnomes, Fairies, Flappers, etc…
The Twiggy I love Best! I saw this film in the theater with my mother in 1971 - it left a lasting impression. I can’t believe it is still unavailable on DVD or Netflix!
